Questions before you buy.
Does it work on Intel Macs?
Apple Silicon only (M1 or later). Intel support isn't planned. If you're on Intel, the Docker build runs anywhere Docker does and serves the reader in any browser.
What does the license cover?
Personal use. One person, up to 2 Macs at the same time. If you want to use Legible across a team, email hello@getlegible.app and we'll work something out.
Do I get updates?
Yes. Every update is free, forever. "Yours forever" means exactly that: no twelve-month gate, no upgrade fees, nothing to renew. Buy once, get every version that follows.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After the first license check, Legible reads your vault locally with no network involvement, and nothing leaves your Mac by default. Periodic license re-checks happen in the background when you're online, but a brief offline stretch doesn't lock you out. The optional AI features follow the same rule: the built-in model runs on your Mac and works offline after a one-time download, and a cloud provider is only ever contacted if you connect one yourself.
Is there AI in it?
Only if you turn it on. Out of the box Legible is a plain reader. In Preferences you can enable semantic search and "Ask your notes", answered by a small built-in model that runs entirely on your Mac with no key or account, by your own OpenAI or Anthropic key, or by a local server like Ollama. Off by default, and your notes stay on your machine unless you choose a cloud provider.
Which markdown does it understand?
Obsidian-flavoured markdown is the primary target: wikilinks, embeds, callouts, block references, footnotes, KaTeX, Shiki syntax highlighting, frontmatter, tags. Standard CommonMark and GitHub-flavoured markdown work too. If something renders wrong in your vault, send us the file.
What if I want a refund?
14 days, no questions asked. Email us and we'll process it within a business day. Full details on the refund page.
